Hello! We are Scott and Brenda Stone of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Both of us have always had a passion for travel and now that our three kids are grown and we are officially empty nesters, we are looking to take a few years off and travel a bit. We’ve decided to call Costa Rica home for a while as we explore other countries in Central and South America.

But before we can do that, we need to sell our two businesses along with our home in Wisconsin and our condo in Miami Beach, get rid of most of our belongings and become more proficient in Spanish. Oh, and figure out how to make a living. That doesn’t sound like too much work! We expect the “journey before the journey” to take a couple of years, and we want to share that with you.

Our initial thought in starting Skipping Stone Travels blog was to have a medium to keep in touch with family and friends. But we quickly realized the things we learn during this transition might be helpful to other people. Our blog will feature stories about our experience including the preparations and processes, the successes and challenges of the journey.

We have always enjoyed traveling, meeting new people and experiencing new things. After traveling to Central America a few times and having amazing experiences, we were inspired to move to Costa Rica. We love Costa Rica in part because of its sheer beauty, the ease in which you can travel the country, and that it is one of the Blue Zones of the world, where people live longer and are statistically happier. For a country that is small in square miles, it seems to be endless in regard to exploration.

We look forward to a life that is more relaxed and also full of adventure. We believe travel is important because it gives people a richer understanding of the different cultural contexts of others. It is a great way to learn and grow as individuals. We are hoping to make new friends, try new things and immerse ourselves in a new culture and environment.

Costa Rica is just the beginning of our journey as expats. We have plans to move around and try other places. We look forward to sharing our journey with you! It’s all about where you land…

Cheers,
